Are you ready for the New Year? (She says as champagne flutes prematurely clink!)
With only a few hours left of 2016, I’m guessing you could be one of the many who are:
– Over the moon to say good riddance to 2016
– Stockpiling the champers in anticipation
– Writing your resolutions as we speak
But wait! Maybe hold up on that last one…
What were your resolutions from this time last year?
Can you even remember them? If you can, is it because they’re the same ones you pledge year after year?
If you’re one of the few who actually achieve everything on their end of year to-do list, then you definitely deserve an extra glass of bubbles this NYE!
But, if you’re not a NY resolution over-achiever, then you probably like the majority of the population who just don’t quite get there with their list of resolutions.
But, luckily, I have a tip that may help you succeed in your goals for the year to come…
See, I ditched making New Year’s resolutions a long time ago. Instead, at the end of each year, I take a step back and appreciate what the past 365 days held for me and then I consider how I’d like to live the next trip around the Sun.
It’s at that point that I choose one or two themes that I want the coming year to encompass and set that as my New Year’s Theme.
For instance, instead of dictating to yourself a resolution to “lose 15 kg” or to “quit smoking”, maybe you would instead choose “health” as your theme.
The beauty of the NY Theme is that it doesn’t dictate an outcome or an end of year objective. Unlike resolutions that fizzle out fast after you’ve decided you’ve failed at reaching your (often unreasonable) goal, the NY theme is more of a mantra – a way of life. It allows for flexibility, growth and the ability to bend with the wind as you sail through the year able to experience life more fully under its guidance.
The brevity is also super nice when it comes to being able to routinely remind yourself of your theme. Simply place those one or two words around the house, in your wallet, or on your desktop to remind yourself of the bigger picture.
Speaking of bigger pictures, the theme I’ve chosen for 2017 is “Think Bigger”. That’s right, I’m taking things BIGGER. I want to expand in all ways – personally, professionally, financially. And with that banner emblazoned in my mind (OK and it’ll be on my fridge, too) I’ll be able to factor in so many more actions that will build towards the year’s theme rather than trying to stuff myself into a regimented box of goals that a New Year’s resolution would enforce.
Having a New Year’s Theme is exciting (well, I’m excited anyway!) and just the thought of it makes me think of all the paths that could present themselves in the New Year!
Now let’s raise a glass to you as you get to work thinking of your own theme to sum up how you want to live your life in 2017. And for those of you who still want a list to follow, here’s one I wrote for you:
– Ditch the list
– Choose your theme
– Get ready to start the New Year living your life with a different outlook!
Wishing you a safe, happy and fabulous New Year’s celebration, no matter how big or small!
In the spirit of my theme, I’ll be starting the year of 2017 Thinking BIGGER with weekly Facebook live sessions! I’m so excited to connect with you and others! Each video will offer tips, tricks, and any other wisdom I can impart in order to help you on your way to attaining mega boss babe status.
