We all know of those people who have that commanding presence. You know the ones, they walk into a room and you’re instantly attracted to them, want to get to know them, maybe even befriend them. They let out a kind of positive and confident energy that people can’t help but admire.
Last night I was lucky enough to take my Mum, Clairsy, out to the We Will Rock You opening night, as an early Mothers Day gift. We had an awesome night (more on that later), but the female lead, played by Erin Clare, absolutely stole the show with a voice that commanded attention!
Which got me thinking…why? What makes those people so confident and sure about themselves in a world that is so judgmental? And to me, it all linked back to them having found their voice. They know who they are and what they stand for and they’re unapologetic about it.
So many people these days make it their priority to fit in. We live and act the way we’re expected to. We make major life decisions based on what is seen as ‘normal’ (whatever the hell that is, anyway!). We never dare to voice opinions that are we know are a little different or could ruffle a few feathers. Basically, we play it safe. But as the great actor Jim Carrey once said, “Your need for acceptance can make you invisible in this world. Risk being seen in all your glory”.
In other words, don’t be afraid to be a bad ass and stray from the norm. Get to know yourself. Speak your mind. Reach for the dreams that you aspire towards, no matter how crazy they seem to others. The greatest people in this world wouldn’t ever have achieved their level of greatness if they simply wanted to fit in!
No doubt it’s scary stuff. Not everyone is going to agree with you. And I can promise you right now, that not everyone’s going to like you! But once you’ve found your voice and you parade it in confidence like a bright rainbow flag, it truly shows to the rest of the world.
Speaking of parading in confidence, it wasn’t just Erin’s performance last night that thrilled, the entire show was breath-taking!
We Will Rock You relives 24 of Queens legendary hits like We Are the Champions, Another One Bites The Dust, Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock You, with the crowd singing in unison throughout.
And it wasn’t just the singing that thrilled….there are few things on this planet that I enjoy more than watching chiseled shirtless men performing choreographed dancing, and fortunately, this show had that in spades!
If you loved any of the music from this era (which let’s face it, we all do!), and if you only ever see one musical, make it this one!
