Have you ever thought about changing something about yourself?
Oh c’mon now, we all have.
Perhaps a better question should be: when was the last time you thought about changing yourself?
I recently read an article about how perfection can be a motivation killer and it got me thinking…I’m a seriously busy bossbabe who relies on motivation to thrive, so I have to be sensitive to anything that’s going to take me out of my flow.
Regardless of if they’re major or minor overhauls, we constantly create mental wishlists of favourable attributes that read like (awful, processed, toxin-filled) grocery lists:
– Lose weight
– Get tanned
– Get a smaller butt
– Get a bigger butt!
Ahhh! Are you exhausted yet!? Because I’m certainly feeling unmotivated and overwhelmed.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve spoken about change before and it’s a fact of life that many people fear because it encourages the new (which is usually something great but you’re just not able to see it yet)… but that’s not what I’m talking about here…
This is the concept of self-imposed change because we think we’re not enough.
But trust me, you are enough.
You are a success in your own right. Just the simple fact that you’re here on this planet, with two feet planted firmly on the ground means you’ve made it and you should be celebrated.
Do what’s best for you, create positive change for yourself, but don’t impose perfection – it’s unattainable, unrealistic, and a motivation buzzkill!
So the next time I feel that cloud descend, where my inner critic starts sharpening her claws on which current part of me is inadequate, rather than listening to her nonsense, I think I’ll come back down to earth and retort: Is it really time for a brand new you?
Luckily, I already know the answer: No. Just be brand you.
